Missed our 2023 event? Stay tuned for Dinner & A Sheaux 2024! Hosted by Sugar Sheaux and celebrated inside Chef’s Table by Beauxjax. Our goal is to raise money to aid in the Jazmyne Dixon Scholarship for our local type 1 diabetic high school seniors and care packages for our local children with type 1 diabetes. The scholarship is named in honor of Jazmyne Dixon, a local community member, who lost her battle to type I diabetes in 2022.
Type 1 diabetes is a very specific type of diabetes where the pancreas no longer produces insulin. This disease mostly affects juveniles, with the average age of diagnoses between 4 and 10years old, although there are reported cases of late onset type 1 diabetes in teens and adults. Those diagnosed with type 1 diabetes require around the clock administration of insulin, and require even more insulin when ingesting foods/drinks with carbohydrates and sugars. There is a huge lifestyle gap between those living with type 1 diabetes and those without it. Type 1 diabetics, on average, make an extra 180 health-related decisions PER DAY. One wrong decision or miscalculation of medication can cause hospitalization, or even death. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic (life-long) autoimmune disease, with currently no cure. The cost of necessary supplies to help manage type 1 diabetes are extremely high, and continuing to rise. Our goal during this event is to:
